We delivered the structural and civil design for this complex building incorporating structural steelwork, engineered mass timber CLT panels, and curved glulam timber elements.

Our expertise in both mass timber and steelwork design/detailing allowed complex sculptural forms to be created to meet the client’s brief for this prominent site in Māwhera.

We worked closely with Wētā Workshops to achieve the demanding fitout specifications for inside the building.

The feature canopy at the entrance to the building consists of curved timber glulam elements facetted to form an organic curved surface which is covered by a tension fabric cladding system.

The arches extend over 12m high at the apex to form the dramatic surface. ENGCO undertook parametric analysis to define the most efficient surface form for the canopy.

Complex sculptural forms and complex junctions with multiple materials were used through the building.

3D parametric analysis was undertaken to define the canopy form.

3D analysis modelling was undertaken of the building and canopy to optimise the structure.
